The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office has started the hiring process, but they are faced with a challenge
Sheriff Adam Infante Infante says that the number of applications to be in law enforcement have decreased tremendously throughout the years.
“So when I got hired here 23 years ago, there were 120 people who applied for one position. And now we’re lucky if we get 35 or 40 for three or four positions. And it’s been that way for the last four or five years.”
Infante tells Raccoon Valley Radio that the low interest in being in law enforcement is due to external factors.
“All the events that have taken place over the last three or four years and the riots and stuff like that. I think there’s also some family pressure. I know my wife asked me all the time, ‘how much longer are you going to do this?’ I would imagine young men and women, their spouse or their significant other is asking them the same question. Why do you want to go do that? That’s a valid question. That’s what your family’s supposed to do. Keep you in check a little bit.”
Infante mentions that they are looking to fill two more positions and this is the last week they’re taking applications (September 28)_. He says they’re looking to hire good people that fit into their department and it doesn’t matter if they’re certified or not because the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office will send the applicant to the police academy.
