Severe weather made its way into the Raccoon Valley Radio listening area Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service, a severe thunderstorm warning was issued for south central Greene County and northern Guthrie County at 3:26pm, which activated Raccoon Valley Radio’s Severe Weather Action Team live coverage. The radar indicated hazards with the warning included hail and 60 mph wind gusts. Adair and Guthrie County Emergency Management Coordinator Bob Kempf said that around 3:40pm, there was a lot of cloud to ground lightning in the Guthrie Center area, with hard, heavy rain. He added that the majority of the storm was in the northeast part of the county, north of the Highway 44 corridor, and crossing the Highway 25 corridor.

Kempf mentioned that there were some smaller cells in the Adair and Casey area, that could make their way to Stuart before continuing north-northeast. Adair and Guthrie County Emergency Management Deputy Coordinator Jeremy Cooper added that around 3:45pm there was a narrow band of pea sized hail to the north of Guthrie Center, along with sustained winds of up to 45 mph, which pushed the band quickly to the east in the direction of Panora, Yale and Linden. Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams reported just heavy rainfall in the warned area.

About five Raccoon Valley Radio staff, along with Weatherology meteorologists, Adair and Guthrie County Emergency Management Coordinator and Deputy Coordinator and the Greene County Sheriff’s Office participated in our live coverage.
