Proposed zoning changes are coming in the City of Jefferson.

At the most recent Jefferson City Council meeting, the planning and zoning commission wants to make some changes to certain areas in town for zoning. City Administrator Scott Peterson says four areas were presented, including parking for campers, recreational vehicles, boats, and trailers; zero lot line zoning, front yard setbacks for infill lots and fencing regulations. One of the main changes being considered is not allowing campers, RVs, boats and trailers to be parked within the 30-foot setback of a residence’s front yard and another is spelling out the materials that are allowed for fencing.

Peterson points out that while the Council took no action after these topics were presented, the Council did agree to move forward with drafts of the changes from planning and zoning.

“Planning and zoning issues oftentimes seem pretty complex and people may or may not have a keen interest in these type of things, but they really do affect the public. So we want the public to certainly know what’s going on and have opportunity for input about them.”

Peterson encourages anyone in the community to provide feedback and comments to City Hall or, Mayor Matt Gordon, or any of the City Council members prior to the Council scheduling public hearings and voting on these changes.
