The Adair County Iowa State University Extension and Outreach has some fun projects that they are preparing for.

Youth Coordinator Caroline Savage says that staff are putting together Science Technology Engineering and Math projects to continue STEM packages for school aged children in Adair County. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio that they’ve been working with drones as one option for these packages.

“Our goal after some practice on how to actually fly those things is to have some programming for the schools. And they are drones that you build start to finish. You build them up. There is some simulators that you can fly on, really get the feel for it and then actually take them outside and learn to fly them.”

Savage mentions that the drones are new, and that funding through a grant from the STEM Up Program helped get them. She adds that some other STEM projects include using Lego’s and working with solar power.
