A reminder that the filing period for the upcoming November election for city council, mayoral and school board elections in Dallas County is this week.
The filing period started on August 28th and will last until Thursday. There will be council and mayor positions up for election in the City of Adel, Perry and Dexter along with council member positions in the cities of Minburn, Dallas Center and Redfield. There will be three school board member positions up for election in the Adel-DeSoto-Minburn and Perry School Districts. Dallas County Auditor Julia Helm points out that depending where someone wants to run, the number of signatures a candidate will need will change. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio how important these elections are to the communities in Dallas County.
“This is your grassroots. This is a person from your community that represents you and sets budgets and sets your tax levy. So think about it as taxation and they’re representing you kind of the fundamental basis of our democracy, taxation with representation.”
Helm notes that anyone wanting to run for a city election must file with their office, and anyone wanting to run for a school board position must file through the specific school district’s secretary.
