A reminder to residents of the Raccoon Valley Radio listening area, property taxes will be due soon.

Guthrie County Treasurer Brenda Campbell says that since September 30th falls on a weekend this year, those taxes are due on October 2nd. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio how residents can pay their taxes.

“So they can pay through the mail, online at iowatreasurers.org, or if none of those options work, they can contact our office and we can also send them a different way through an email link.”

Campbell explains that for those who don’t get their payment in on time, a penalty of 1.5-percent per month of what is due starts to accrue, beginning on October third. She adds that if those individuals who start to accrue the penalty don’t pay taxes in March, then anything that is unpaid by the third Monday in June will be added to the annual tax sale.
