Greene County football began the season with a 20-0 loss at Carroll vs. the Carroll High Tigers. Since then it’s been three wins in three games and the Rams have out scored Perry, Atlantic, and Saydel (Des Moines) by a combined 137-20.
The Rams continue to turn opponents over with Greene County collecting 15 turnovers in four games while turning the ball over only six times. The turnovers have given the Rams good field position on more than one occasion and last Friday vs. Saydel senior Gavin Scheuermann scored a defensive touchdown on an interception returned 25 yards into the Eagles’ end zone.
The kicking of senior Nathan Behne has not only scored points, but, along with the turnovers collected, has been huge in terms of field position. Behne has 19 kickoffs into the end zone for touchbacks, meaning the opponent begins a drive at its 20 yard line. In addition, he’s made four of five field goal attempts and all 17 extra point kicks.
The 3-1 Rams are 1-0 in Class 2A District 8 and will host Kuemper Catholic (2-2, 1-0) in the Homecoming game for the Rams on Friday night at Linduska Field in Jefferson. You can hear the game on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
