Greene County used a strong scoring stretch of 28 points in 6:02 of game time in quarter number two to open up what was a close football game at Saydel High School in Des Moines. The Rams led 7-0 with just over seven minutes to play in the first half, but that lead ballooned to 35-0 before halftime and the 35-point rule with a continuous clock rule was in effect the rest of the game. The 35-0 halftime lead grew to 41-0 midway through quarter number three and that’s how the game ended. Coach Caden Duncan’s team is 3-1 with three straight wins and 1-0 in Class 2A District 8 while the Eagles fell to 1-3, 0-1. It was Saydel’s Homecoming and the game was heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.

The Rams had 239 of its 322 yards of total offense in the first half and all but 44 of those yards came on the ground as Greene County had its best night of the season running the football. Junior Nick Stream had 99 yards and two touchdowns rushing, both career bests. Stream had TD runs of two and seven yards and junior Camden Strennen had a touchdown run of 56 yards. Senior quarterback Gabe Ebersole threw TD passes of 10 and 12 yards to senior Jack Hansen, and senior linebacker Gavin Scheuermann returned a pass interception 25 yards for a touchdown. Senior Kick Nathan Behne was five for five on extra point kicks, and he recorded touchbacks on all seven of his kickoffs.  Ebersole was 4-8-0 passing and Hansen had all four receptions and the 44 receiving yards.

Both teams turned the ball over twice with the Rams losing a pair of fumbles and senior Noah Cornell recovering a fumble for the Rams in addition to Scheuermann’s “pick six” interception return.

Junior quarterback A.J. Olin of Saydel led them with 55 rushing yards and he was 9-22-1 passing for over 120 yards.
