Thursday night saw the volleyball teams from Greene County and Paton-Churdan play matches in their respective conferences. The Rams were in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play at Jewell vs. South Hamilton and the Rockets hosted Ar-We-Va (Westside) in Churdan in the Rolling Valley Activities Conference.
Coach Chris Heisterkamp’s Rams won in three sets to improve to 2-1 in the HOIAC and 10-6 overall. Scores were 25-22, 25-11, 25-19, while SH fell to 8-14, and this was their first conference action. The coach said the Rams had a lot of solid plays that connected for the win. “These girls continue to show that they are competitive and are will to work hard to keep growing.” Kaylee Stalder led in kills with 21 and Coach Heisterkamp told Raccoon Valley Radio that Stalder entered the match with 499 career kills, so her first kill of the night was extra special, putting her over the 500 mark. Emma Shipley had nine kills with four by Payton Kokenge and three for Lila Osterson. Graci Cooklin led the Rams in digs with 13, and was followed by Shipley, Hailey Carman, and Osterson, each with six. Violet Reedy had five digs.
It was the Rockets vs. the Rockets when AWV visited P-C with the visiting team coming out on top in three sets 18-25, 16-25, 12-25. The win was the first in seven matches for AWV while P-C fell to 0-5 in matches and 0-15 in sets. Makayla Spaar is head coach of Paton-Churdan and she reported four ace serves for Mia Russell. Kaliyah Minnihan and Ella Tasler each had four digs, and no P-C player had more than one kill.
