The Perry Rotary Club unveiled their new contribution to Wiese Park on Wednesday.

The Perry Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting for the new inclusive playground that the Perry Rotary Club fundraised a little over $200,000 to build. This playground is American with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant and is equipped with equipment that people with handicaps can use such as ramps, swings, slides, sensory panels, musical instruments and more. Rotary President Dirk Cavanaugh said that this project was started in 2019 and took longer than expected due to the pandemic and rising cost, but he was pleased with the community support.

Great relief because we’re finished and a lot of pride because it was a long time coming and we think it’s going to be enjoyed by the community and be kind of a showpiece, I hope.”

City of Perry Mayor John Andoff attended the ribbon cutting. He said that the playground was a need for the community of Perry.

“(City of Perry is) very lucky to have so many great things. This is one of them. So many communities larger than us don’t have anything this nice. It’s going to be really appreciated over the years and used a lot. I know.”

There were roughly 40 people from the community on hand to cut the ribbon with the Perry Chamber of Commerce and Perry Rotary Club.
