The Perry Bluejays fell to the Ogden Bulldogs 20-14 last night at Dewey Field in heartbreaking fashion. Perry took advantage of a couple of Ogden mistakes early on in the 1st quarter and made a couple trips into the Bulldogs redzone. However, the Bluejays settled for two field goals that gave them a 6-0 lead. Late in the first half, senior quarterback for Ogden Colby Rohe found his running back Quintin Hoskins deep for a touchdown on 3rd and long that gave the Bulldogs the lead going into the locker room 7-6. It was primarily a defensive affair on both sides of the ball in the first half.

But then there was the second half, where both offenses started to hit their stride. Late in the 3rd, going into the 4th, the Rohe connected with Hoskins again down the sideline deep for the touchdown on yet another 3rd down and long. This touchdown gave Ogden the lead 14-6. Perry still was in the game. They answered on their next drive late in the 4th with the power running of quarterback Geren Kenney and senior running back Keegan Snyder. Kenney completed a pass to his wideout Alix Colas on a crossing pattern that set up Perry at the Ogden 4 yard line 1st and goal. Keegan Snyder then pounded the rock in from there to move the Bluejays within an extra point of tying the game, 14-12. They did just that on the 2 point conversion as Geren Kenney scored on the 2 point conversion to tie up the game at 14 a piece.

The Bluejays were able to hold Ogden defensively and get the ball back to their offense. That is when they started marching down the field. Perry got inside the Ogden 25 with under 40 seconds left, and a chance to win the game. Then a late pick six was thrown as Keaton Westburg ran the interception all the way back for Ogden giving them the 20-14 lead which sealed the win for the Bulldogs. It was a heartbreaker for Perry, as they had the game in hand inside Ogden territory, but instead things shifted out of their favor late.

They will look to bounce back next week when they travel to Storm Lake in Week 4 of the high school football season.
