highway-30-update

Motorists may have encountered some traffic confusion earlier this week at the intersection of US Highway 30 and Iowa Highway 4 in Jefferson.

Iowa Department of Transportation Jefferson Construction Residency Engineer Jenny Hoskins tells Raccoon Valley Radio prep work was being done at that intersection as part of a larger road project that stretches on Highway 30 from Iowa Highway 25 to Eaton Avenue in Jefferson, which includes an asphalt overlay. She says the contractor, Manatts, had crews in Jefferson milling the existing roadway in preparation for the asphalt overlay to happen later.

Hoskins assures the motoring public that the preparation work is complete along the entire project area and crews are expected to begin work later this week on the additional turn lanes from the eastbound lane on Highway 30 onto southbound Highway 25, as well as a turning lanes at the Grimmell Road intersection with Highway 30 in Jefferson. She says motorists should expect delays with traffic reduced to one lane, but that Highway 30 will remain a rough road until crews can start to apply asphalt.

Hoskins adds they are going to be improving traffic control as the project continues and she urges motorists to be patient as well.
