A Grand Junction resident recently had her first book published.
Pam Betts grew up in Eagle Grove and works in Healthcare. She is married with three children, one high school senior and twins that attend Greene County Elementary School. Betts tells Raccoon Valley Radio the newly published, “Stacey’s Journey” has two parts that goes through the life of Stacey Peterson and the struggles and successes she has after her friend passed away from cancer. She describes how she came up with the idea for this fictional story.
“I was watching a medical drama, I had had foot surgery before that and I was bored. I’m like, ‘Well, what can I do?’ So I started writing on my Chromebook and I went off from there. I just started writing and it came to my head, and it was just made up, and I just kept going.”
Betts says the story started as a short story that she self-published. Then when a publisher, Dorrance Publishing Company, decided to go forward with her book, they wanted more pages, so she included the second part, “Stacey’s Love Story: One Year Later.” She points out it took her six months to write the book, but about two years for the entire process of getting it published. Betts gives this advice for any aspiring individual who is thinking about writing a book.
“My advice would be this: follow your dreams. If you have that rough draft written in your notebook or on your computer, share it with the world. Don’t hold back. You never know where one book can take you.”
Betts adds she is working on another book about a fictional woman who is raped at a party and her revenge and justice she seeks because of that experience. “Stacey’s Journey” is available through Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and by clicking the link below. It is available in paperback and as an e-book.
