The Mary J Barnett Memorial Library has many fun events planned for September, including some new ones.
Library Director Jerri Hawkins says that September is National Library Card Sign Up Month, and that there will be story hours at 10am on September 8th and 15th, with the themes of colors and school respectively. There will also be a Lunch and Learn on September 13th with Guthrie County Hospital on some diabetes basics. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio about a community conversation that will be on September 16th.
“This is for my Libraries Transforming Communities, Accessible Mall and Rural Communities Grant that Mary J. Barnett Memorial Library and Friends of Guthrie Center Library were awarded. So this is a conversation where we would like people to come in and talk to us, share their thoughts with us, express how we can make the library more accommodating for their issues.”
Hawkins mentions that they would love to hear from a variety of people that may need extra assistance, like those with mobility issues and hearing, visual and learning disabilities. She adds that the talk will be at 10:30am, and include a light breakfast, so pre-registration is required so that the library knows how much food to have. There will also be a Boredom Buster event on September 20th at 3pm with Judy Zimmerline, with a themed craft, and a meeting of the cookbook club the day after at 6:30pm, with recipes prepared from Magnolia Table by Joanna Gaines.
