For the first time since a new policy was put in place, the Mahanay Memorial Carillon Tower will have a new feature.

A new controller has been installed that will allow the bell tower to be lit with colored lights. The Greene County Board of Supervisors approved a resolution on August 7th to allow for several random colored lights to be displayed on the bell tower on Friday and Saturday nights.  Jefferson Matters Executive Director Matt Wetrich believes this is an enhancement that everyone can enjoy.

“So we’re excited about that, definitely go down and check this out. Thinking about celebrating the community. The bell tower is a huge part of our identity here and whether you are a bell tower fan or not, this is something that we think is fun and exciting to highlight, bring people to town, it’s a great tourism entity. Check out the tower. If you’re on social media, share your pictures and really promote it. We’re excited to share the excitement with everyone and we’re really pumped for this being, well our grand opening if you will of the colored lights on the tower.”

The policy also states that the bell tower and the Greene County Courthouse shall also be lit with colored lights for designated county holidays, which tomorrow and Monday, those structures will have red, white and blue lights in honor of Labor Day.
