A Greene County resident recently received a statewide award.
Fred Long was honored as the Outstanding Soil and Water Conservation District Commissioner of the Year Award. Long has been a Greene County Soil and Water Conservation District Commissioner for eight years, and he is currently the chairperson and treasurer. He also serves as the President of the Iowa Conservation Alliance and is the SWCD’s liaison.
Additionally, Long has volunteered countless hours to promote local programs that are aimed to educate the public about water quality concerns, sustainable farming practices and improving soil health. He is also an active member of the Greene County Pheasants Forever, Ducks Unlimited, and the National Wild Turkey Federation.
Long received the award at the Conservation Districts of Iowa Annual Conference in Ames earlier this week.
