Greene County begins the 2023 high school cross-country season today. Coach Jeff Lamoureux’s Rams will run in the West Central Valley coed meet, which is held on the grounds of the middle school in Redfield. Greene County competes in Class 3A for the postseason this year, up a class from a season ago. Noah Hinote was a 2A State Qualifier for the Rams in 2022, and his goals include a repeat trip to Kennedy Park north of Ft. Dodge. Coach Lamoureux thinks the boys’ team can be competitive this season, but the girls have just four out for the sport, one person shy of qualifying for a team score.

Although warm today, it’s not nearly as oppressive or dangerous from a heat standpoint as it was a week ago. The coach said he purposely had the schedule of meets to start later given how hot it’s been in August in recent years.

After today, the Rams return to practice in preparation for their Ram Invitational on the morning of Saturday, Sept. 9 around the middle school grounds in Jefferson.
