Tomorrow night will see the renewal of the “Cowbell Series” when Perry visits Greene County at Linduska Field in Jefferson. The teams have played for an actual cowbell since 1928 when the Rotary Clubs of Jefferson and Perry donated a bell. The winning team possess the cowbell until the game the next year when it once again is up for grabs. The series goes back well over 100 years, but this is the 93rd time the Cowbell has been played for.
Jefferson-based teams lead the series 61-29-2 and Greene County head coach Caden Duncan talked with Raccoon Valley Radio about the bell. “It means something. It’s very long running rivalry and we try to make sure the kids know that because they obviously haven’t been around to see very many of those, but they know the historical background behind it, and obviously the community knows very well about it. Maybe their Dads, uncles, or cousins, have some personal experience and connect it that way. It’s still definitely a big deal and we want to retain the cowbell as long as we can.” The Rams have won the last five games in the series including the last four by shut out.
Kickoff is at 7 p.m. Friday with coverage at 6:30 p.m. on KG98, 1310 KDLS for the Perry perspective, and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
