An important meeting for Adair County 4-H members in 9th-12th grades is coming up.

Adair County Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Youth Coordinator Caroline Savage says that the Youth Council will hold its first meeting of the new 4-H year on September 10th. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio what the group does.

“The Youth Council is, we focus on some community service projects. Last year we had a toiletry drive for the food pantry over at The Gathering Place, the hygiene pantry, collected toilet paper, tissues, bathroom supplies, those types of things that are needed. They were very active this year with the (Adair County) Fair and hosting some teen events.”

Savage mentions some of the events that the Youth Council planned and helped with at the Adair County Fair were a game night, volleyball tournament, the gaga ball pit and a teen dance. They also do events throughout the year to help raise funds for Adair County 4-H, like bake sales, to try and get teens in the different communities to be more active, and help remind people why they support 4-H.
