Iowa’s cottontail rabbit and squirrel seasons kick off Saturday.

Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officer for Dallas County Dustin Eighmy says that the state has an abundance of rabbits and hunters can shoot a daily limit of ten from sunrise to sunset. Eigmhy notes that hunters will also be preparing for squirrel season.

“If you want to get in the woods, we also have that squirrel season that opens up on the second. So those traditional squirrel hunters that like to get out in the woods with their 22 (rifle). We have that opening up in September.”

Hunters can shoot a daily limit of six with no restrictions on shooting hours. Additionally, snipe and rail hunting will begin on Saturday.
