Cross-Country is the last of the three Fall sports fielded at Greene County High School to start the 2023 season. Coach Jeff Lamoureux’s Rams will begin the campaign at the West Central Valley Invitational held on the Middle School grounds in Dexter.
Junior Noah Hinote qualified for the Class 2A boys’ State Meet in 2022 and the Greene County coach feels the boys’ team will be quite competitive this season, although both the girls and boys programs move up a class to 3A for the postseason. The Rams have nearly a dozen boys out for the sport, but just four girls, which is one short of the number needed to qualify for a team score.
After the WCV meet, the Rams are off until Saturday, Sept. 9 when they host the Greene County Invitational, which will be held this year on the Middle School grounds in Jefferson. It’s a morning meet and running will be done well before kickoff of the Iowa at Iowa State football game that afternoon.
