Coach Chris Heisterkamp’s Greene County High School volleyball team is seeing plenty of action early in the season. After playing four matches and 11 sets last week, the Rams were at Boone last night and will be at South Central Calhoun’s Middle School in Rockwell City tonight.
The Rams went 1-1 in matches and 2-3 in sets on Monday vs. Boone and Kuemper Catholic. Kuemper defeated Boone in the opening match of the triangular, then the Rams met the Knights and lost 18-25 and 22-25 in two sets. The Toreadors and Rams finished the evening with Greene County winning in three sets by scores of 18-25, 25-21, 15-9.
The leaders in kills vs. the Knights was Kaylee Stalder with seven with three each by Lila Osterson and Emma Shipley. Gracie Cooklin led the Rams in digs vs. Kuemper Catholic with seven. Violet Reedy had six digs, followed by Emma Ewalt, Hailey Carman, and Natalee Baugh with five apiece.
In the match vs. Boone, Shipley had eight kills with three each from Stalder, Payton Kokenge, Baugh, and Reedy. Cooklin had 11 digs vs. Boone with seven for Baugh, and six each from Reedy and Osterson.
Greene County served with 84% accuracy on the night. Coach Heisterkamp told Raccoon Valley Radio, “Our passing was absolutely azazing from the first whistle. Our libero, Graci Cooklin had a fantastic night in the back row. Unfortunately, our hitters and setters struggled to terminate the plays in the match vs. Kuemper. We passed and served well, but everything was not up to our potential. Against Boone, we were again playing below our potential, and serving was disappointing, but stuck it out and poured on the offensive power late in the match to get the win.”
Panorama and SCC play at 5 p.m. today, followed by the Panthers and Rams with the Titans and Greene County rounding out the triangular. Greene County takes a 3-3 match record and 9-7 set record into tonight’s action.
