The City of Perry has started phase one of a revitalization project.
Perry Public Works Director Josh Wuebker says that they are in the development phase of the Downtown Improvements Project. The project will include a full reconstruction of streets and sidewalks on 2nd Avenue from Willis to Warford Street and the north and south alley between Warford and Lucinda. Wuebker explains that they are in the process of letting the businesses affected that they need their basement inspected.
“We sent out a thing where we need to myself or maybe Mike Landels, our superintendent, one of us, and the city engineers have to physically go in, take pictures, look at the basements to make sure everything’s suitable for construction there. There was a lot back in the day. They had a lot of steam lines, coal chutes, different things like that. So they just want to make sure that everything is structurally good to go.”
There will be a digital link that each property owner can set up their basement inspected and that will be linked here. The Downtown Improvement Project is expected to start construction next summer.
