A reminder of a family-friendly performance is happening later today at Spring Lake Park.

The Community Players of Greene County are putting on one performance of the “Gather ‘Round the Radio” at the Lakeside shelter house at 5pm. Director Josh Tuel says the production is based on four originally-performed radio programs which are re-created via reader’s theater-style where the cast members read from a script. He points out because the cast doesn’t have to worry about memorizing scripts, he gave them more discretion on their character development.

“I’ve given them the free rein to play with the characters as much as they want to. I wanted to recreate classic pieces, which means these people get to bring their own personality to the character, they’re own take on how the character would be, how the character would act, how the character would sound. And I think that they have really taken to that.”

The performance includes four plays: “Superman I,” “Fibber McGee and Molly,” “The Tell-Tale Heart,” and “The Bickersons.” The cost to attend is a free-will donation and attendees are encouraged to bring their own lawn chair or blanket. The full cast list can be found below.
