Perry football is back tonight! It’s a new era for Bluejay football as Tyler Hovey will be coaching his first game for the Perry Bluejays. He was the assistant coach last year under Bryce Pierce’s staff. Hovey said one message has been stagnant throughout the offseason.
“Be the change” has kind of been something that we have latched onto this year. Going a little extra at practice, staying a little later working on specific drills. It’s got to be different at some point. We have to change the input if we want a different output so “be the change” is our slogan for this season,” Hovey said.
Perry will look to start off strong after a tough season a year ago as they finished 1-8. Their only win of the season last year came against this Des Moines Hoover team as they won that matchup 27-21 at home. That should bring the fire from the Huskies for tomorrow nights matchup. Geren Kenney was 6 for 10 in that game for 39 yards and one touchdown. He also rushed for 73 yards and scored 3 touchdown with his legs. Keegan Snyder also rushed for 109 yards that night. It was the most complete performance for the Bluejays a season ago.
Des Moines Hoover also finished 1-8 in their season a year ago. They come from the Alliance conference. Their only win last season came against the Sioux City West Wolverines. It was a close game as the Huskies ended up pulling that win out 35-33.
It should be a competitive game out on Dewey Field tonight. Shawn Kenney will have the call for you right here on KDLS and you can continue to get updated throughout Friday night and this weekend on scores and stats at raccoonvalleyradio.com. Kickoff will be at 7:30.
