A reminder that one of Greene County’s own will be ushered into the 4-H Hall of Fame tomorrow at the Iowa State Fair.
Billie Jo Hoskins has been a Greene County 4-H volunteer for three decades. She has helped with the craft show, been involved with the Youth Development Committee, the Greene County 4-H Foundation and a 4-H club leader. She talks about her most enjoyable part of 4-H.
“Just being out at the fair and seeing the families, seeing what 4-H does for kids. A lot of people think it’s just showing livestock, but there’s a lot of other things that the kids can do. There’s projects that they can take to Clover Hall, there’s communications. It just teaches kids lifelong responsibilities and lifelong things that they’re going to use throughout their life.
Greene County ISU Extension says Hoskins embodies what it means to be a true 4-H’er. She is a humble, and selfless person who encourages others to work hard, try something new and be the best version of themselves. Hoskins has stepped back from being a fully active volunteer in 4-H, but enjoys spending time with her grandchildren who are in 4-H.
Hoskins will be honored tomorrow at 1:30pm in the 4-H Exhibit building on the state fairgrounds.
