When the high school volleyball season begins on Aug. 22 for the Greene County Rams, they won’t be facing a pair of Class 1A schools like they’ve done in recent years. Instead, Coach Chris Heisterkamp’s team will go to Dallas Center-Grimes High School to face DC-G, Mason City, and Ballard (Huxley). The Rams are a Class 3A program and the other three are in Class 4A. Greene County was 16-11 last season while DC-G was 20-17, Ballard went 17-14, and Mason City had a 15-21 record.
The coach talked with Raccoon Valley Radio about the schedule change. “Our season opener in years past was very easy competition and that really wasn’t helping us out, so we wanted to start with a bang and (Activities Director) Mr. Wright found us a tough, competitive outing for our first one, and we’ll be alright. We’ll be okay.”
