A Greene County resident will be honored at the Iowa State Fair.
Billie Jo Hoskins was selected as the Greene County representative to be inducted into this year’s Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame. Hoskins didn’t grow up as a 4-H’er, but after meeting her then soon-to-be-husband Chris, she volunteered and supported 4-H for the next three decades.
Hoskins says during her time with 4-H, she was actively involved with the Youth Development Committee and the Greene County 4-H Foundation. When her sons Isaac and Adam were going through 4-H, she became their club’s leader. The Hoskins family was also very involved in showing cattle and attended not only the Iowa State Fair but also the Iowa Beef Expo.
When Hoskins was announced at this year’s Greene County Fair as the Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame inductee, she recalls what her initial reaction was.
“Very humbling. I was active in 4-H for 31 years but I didn’t do it for the accolades, I did it just because I enjoyed it. I could see what it taught our kids, I could see what it taught other kids that were in our 4-H clubs. It’s just a wonderful group of people to work with. I fully support 4-H. If any family has the opportunity to do it, it’s a great program for anyone.”
Hoskins will be inducted into the Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame on Sunday at the Iowa State Fair.
