Heads up for motorists, there will be traffic disruptions on a major highway through a portion of Greene County starting soon.

Iowa Department of Transportation Jefferson Construction Residency Engineer Jenny Hoskins says an asphalt overlay project will begin Monday, August 21st on Highway 30 east of Eaton Avenue in Jefferson to just west of the intersection of Highways 30 and 25 in Scranton. Hoskins tells Raccoon Valley Radio the project will start with crews doing cold in place recycling to prevent cracking at the joints in the roadway. Hoskins points out the next step will be widening the shoulders from two to four feet with asphalt. During both of these procedures, traffic will be reduced to one lane with a pilot car and flaggers directing traffic.

Additionally, Hoskins notes there will be new features at the T-intersection with Grimmell Road next to the Greene County High School. She says there will be a left turn lane for westbound traffic and a right turn lane for eastbound traffic to help reduce issues for motorists in that area. There will also be a turning lane from Highway 30 onto Highway 25.

Hoskins says the total number of days allotted for the project is 130, pending weather, however, she anticipates part of the project to be completed before winter, with the reminder happening next spring or summer. She adds this is a $7.7 million contract with Manatts.
