One US Senator from Iowa has come out as being critical of an appointment made by the US Department of Justice.

Earlier this month, US Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed David Weiss, a US Attorney in Delaware, as special counsel for the investigation into President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter. US Senator Chuck Grassley says he and Senator Ron Johnson of Wisconsin have shared numerous documents showing alleged wrongdoings by Hunter Biden since 2019, including financial transactions with business partners that were flagged for possible money laundering, foreign work that is believed to have violated the Foreign Agents Registration Act, among others.

Grassley believes Weiss and the Department of Justice have continued to ignore reviewing their documents and considering them for their investigation. He points out a federal judge rejected a plea agreement for Hunter, which led to the special counsel appointment. Grassley shares his thoughts on the appointment of Weiss was done for a possible alternative motive.

“And it may be for the purpose also of preventing Weiss from testifying before the (US) House committees in the next month. He was scheduled to testify. Now they can use the excuse that they always use, ‘Well it’s still under investigation and we can’t talk about what’s under investigation.’ So yes, Weiss should go, there should be somebody else put in as special counsel and Weiss should still be testifying before the House committees in the next month.”

Grassley suggests an individual who is not part of the Department of Justice or involved in the federal government should have been appointed as special counsel.
