If you are looking for some family fun today, Grand Junction has you covered with its 2nd Annual 50107 Summerfest.

There are several things happening throughout the day today and co-organizer Linda Hoffman encourages everyone to take part in all the festivities, which she points out they added quite a few new things to this year’s town celebration, including serving a breakfast and lunch today, to the fire department doing a Jaws of Life demonstration, the 5K run/walk, an insect zoo at the library, among other new things.

Hoffman says the city used to have an annual celebration every year and those individuals that were heavily involved either passed or moved away and so the event went by the wayside.

“And I think it’s extremely important, and I know everybody on the (planning) group would agree, that we bring the community together. Whether you are donating your time, whether you are helping us do something, whether you are coming just to sit and watch the bands and enjoy. You know it’s about bringing a community together and really knowing what the word ‘community’ means.”

Hoffman thanks everyone who was involved with planning to participate in the weekend event. Click the link below to see the full schedule of activities for today.
