With the school year fast approaching, many families are excited for a chance to save today and tomorrow.
Iowa’s Annual Sales Tax Holiday started at midnight, and will continue until midnight tomorrow night. Stuart Chamber of Commerce President Katie Adams says that she appreciates this consistent opportunity for Iowa families to be able to save some money as they prepare to go back to school. With this holiday being the first Friday and Saturday of August, families that have to budget are able to count on the weekend.
Adams adds that from her view as part of the Chamber Board, it’s important to brush up on the Iowa Tax website to see what this weekend means for small business owners. She adds that as a small business owner herself, she recently realized after reading the code about the weekend that the tax break applies to clothing and footwear items that are priced under $100, and that any business that sells these items must participate in the tax free sales if they are open today and tomorrow. Adams mentions that moving forward, she thinks an exception for tennis shoes, as all children need them for school, but it’s hard to purchase a pair that’s under the $100 limit.
