The 50107 Summerfest in Grand Junction kicks-off today, but there is a full slate of activities for tomorrow.
The morning includes a breakfast served by the Grand Junction Public Library from 7-9am at the community center, followed by the 5K run/walk, starting at 8am at Fouch Agri-Service. Then at 9am will be a pickleball tournament at the tennis court, a petting zoo at the school lot, face painting and a vendor show at the community center.
The parade takes place at 10:30am, starting at the intersection of 15th and Bennett Streets, followed by the Grand Junction Lions Club Car Show at 11am at the city park, a fundraiser lunch for the city swimming pool at the community center at 11:30am and a Jaws of Life demonstration by the fire department at the school lot is at 11:30am.
At noon, the beer tent, carnival, and knockerballs opens at the school lot. Then at 1pm will be an ice cream social, quilt show and bingo at the First Presbyterian Church, with yard games and a bags tournament starting at 3pm at the school lot. An insect zoo takes place at the library starting at 4pm, with the second block of the carnival also starting at 4pm, and that’s when the Greene County Cattlemen’s Association will be grilling and serving a meal. The musical entertainment is from 8-11pm with Standing Hampton.
Co-organizer Linda Hoffman says they added a lot of new activities to this event after the committee brought it back to life last year.
“We made sure that this year we had plenty of things for people to do the whole entire day and did not have a lull because we don’t want anybody going home, right? Because there’s a two hour gap. We want you to stay, we want you to have fun, we want you to attend the carnival, and all the other free events that we have, and stick around for supper, and stick around for some good bands too.”
Hoffman adds there will also be merchandise with t-shirts and koozies for sale, with proceeds to help plan for next year’s celebration.
