The Dallas Center-Grimes softball team came together at the end of the 2023 season and unanimously selected Aubrey Johansen as their most valuable player.

The Mustang pitcher was handpicked for a number of accolades including being put on the first team all conference, all district, all-state in class 4a, among others. Johansen finished her junior season with a .424 batting average with a .482 on base percentage, drove in 32 runs on 125 at bats. On the rubber, Johansen started 25 games, pitched 150 innings with an earned run average of 2.28, and she collected 124 strikeouts. DCG Head Softball Coach Steve Schlafke said Johansen was an important part of what they were able to accomplish this year.

“So she hits and she pitches and she plays very good defense on the mound as well. So she’s very valuable in a lot of aspects. If she’s not pitching, then she’ll be in the lineup as a hitter, if nothing else. And so that does show the value to to the team for sure.”

Dallas Center-Grimes softball won 29 games and the Little Hawkeye Conference, but fell in the substate regional final.
