A Greene County area man is alive and a woman drowned from a weekend incident in Boone County. According to the Boone County Sheriff’s Office, deputies, along with Boone County Search and Rescue, Boone County Emergency Management, Boone County Hospital Ambulance, Ogden 1st Responders, Ogden Fire Department, Story County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team, Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Iowa State Patrol, Mary Greeley Medical Ambulance, Gilbert Fire Department and Condon’s Towing responded at 9:53pm on Saturday of a vehicle in the water just north of Fraser Dam on Juniper Road.

The Boone County Sheriff’s Office reports that a 2012 Chevrolet Traverse was submerged eight to ten feet after rolling down a boat ramp. By the time the vehicle was pulled from the water, authorities found the body of 39-year-old Denise Kuhns of the Boone and Grand Junction areas in the rear of the vehicle where law enforcement believes she became entangled or entrapped by belongings when she was trying to escape.

The Boone County Sheriff’s Office also learned that 40-year-old Benjamin Murphy of the Rippey and Fort Dodge areas was also trapped inside the vehicle as it was being submerged. He was able to get out through the rear passenger door. Murphy told investigators that he thought the vehicle had a malfunction which led to it rolling down the boat ramp. Several individuals tried breaking the windows to save Kuhns but were unsuccessful. The investigation is ongoing with the Boone County Sheriff’s Office.
