Every baseball coach’s dream is to have a player that can play multiple positions and do it well.
Dallas Center-Grimes’ Taitn Gray did it all for the Mustang baseball club. Gray would catch behind the plate, play third base, make plays in the outfield, pitch along with hit for power as a switch hitter. Gray as a sophomore was selected on the Little Hawkeye All-Conference First Team as a utility player. He hit for an average of .322 as well as smashed six homeruns, drove in 34 runs on 121 at bats. Head Coach Curt Castenson talked how valuable it was to have Gray in the lineup.
“That was fun to see. When you have a guy that can play those positions and still be very successful, it just helps the team out that much more. Then obviously him as a sophomore at the plate. Yeah, he backed up (Clayton Campidilli) Campi in that four hole spot and he was actually hitting leadoff for a while and hitting second two for us at the beginning of the year as well. So yeah, he I’m excited to get him back even for two more years.”
In 37 games played Taitn Gray only made four errors. Dallas Center-Grimes baseball had a fantastic 2023 season with 30 wins, conference championship and a state qualifying bid.
Taitn Gray was our utility man! He played LF, RF, 3B, Catcher for us.
While being put all around the field he hit .294 with 3 HRs in conference play!
Congrats on a great year, Taitn!#RMR 🐴 pic.twitter.com/EURsW1TOnq
