Stuart Police Sergeant Katie Guisinger helps plan and enact the summer youth programs that the department does in Stuart, and looks back on how the programs from this summer went.

Guisinger says that the first two programs both took place at Springbrook State Park North of Guthrie Center. The first was to see all the different things the children could do around the park on land, and the second was all about the water. She mentions that Iowa Department of Natural Resources Interpretive Naturalist and Educator Anne Riordan really helped make sure that all the children had fun learning.

Guisinger tells Raccoon Valley Radio that the children all had fun on their trips to the park.

“You know, and the kids, they all end the day really tired. So I always say that’s really indicative of a good day, if you’ve either got a busload of kids that are either, you know, that are really excited or really tired.”

For the other programs, Guisinger and chaperones took the children into Des Moines to see an Iowa Cubs game, and to visit the Blank Park Zoo. She explains that both trips into the city were just as exciting and fun as their trips to Springbrook State Park.
