Friday was the final party for the kindergarten through fourth grade Summer Reading Program with the Jefferson Public Library.

Participants watched a performance by edutainer Will Stuck at the First United Methodist Church in Jefferson. Youth Services Librarian Bailey Mount said 107 kids registered and 71 completed the program. She pointed out there were a total of 27,054 minutes that were read by the kids.“Remarkable. Completely blowing me away because I gave the daycares, what I said, ‘Finish 90 books by the (end of) summer. I had based that number off  previous information I could find for stretch goals and it was a little bit higher than it had been in past years. They finished it within the first like week of July they were done, and they’re like, ‘What else?’ Again I let them know at the party (on Friday) that I had set expectations and they just had exceeded them by leaps and bounds.”

Mount announced the grand prize winner of a new bicycle was Jayda Frueh.

Mount appreciated everyone that participated in their program and thanked the sponsors that included Home State Bank, Peoples Bank, Breadeaux Pizza, Greene County Board of Supervisors, Blank Park Zoo and the Greene County Libraries Association.
