Greene County High School seniors Emma Hoyle and Olivia Shannon were named All-State softball players in Class 3A by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association. Hoyle moved up from the third team as a junior and Shannon made an All-State softball team for the first time. Both were instrumental in helping the Rams to a 22-7 record, second place finish in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference, number 13 ranking, and a 3A Region 3 finals  appearance.

Hoyle completed her fifth season as the primary pitcher for Coach Tom Kennedy’s team. She had a 21-5 record with 259 strikeouts this season and 693 for her career. At the plate, she hit eight home runs, drove in 34 base runners, and had a .355 batting average. The strikeouts this season were the third most among 3A pitchers and the two pitchers with more K’s had significantly more innings pitched. She plans on continuing her softball career at Iowa Central Community College in Ft. Dodge.

Shannon batted .402 as a left-handed slapping leadoff hitter. She went 42 of 44 on stolen base attempts, which was the second most steals among 3A players. Shannon also showed great range and a strong arm in the outfield. Coach Kennedy told Raccoon Valley Radio Shannon made maybe the greatest catch he’s ever seen when the Rams upset then number 7 Saydel in Des Moines early in the season.
