Now that corn has reached its optimum height motorists have another challenge in terms of visibility.

Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams says tall corn can make it difficult for motorists to see crossing traffic at intersections, especially ones that are uncontrolled. Williams advises to take extra precaution as you approach an uncontrolled intersection so you can see traffic around the tall corn.

“You just need to slow down and ease into those intersections because you can’t see the cars coming, or try and look for the dust on the gravel roads as you’re going down the road from a different direction. The dust is generally, you can see it from quite a ways away.”

Williams adds deer are still prevalent this time of year and with tall corn, it also hides those animals and gives motorists less reaction time when they come out of the corn fields.
