Certain individuals can receive retroactive benefits with a new law for military veterans.
Greene County Veterans Affairs Director Michael Bierl says the Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics (PACT) Act allows surviving spouses of military veterans that served from January 9, 1962 to July 31, 1980 in Thailand, Loas, Cambodia, Guam or American Samoa, or who sailed in the waters off of these territories can now qualify for certain benefits. Spouses of veterans who have passed away, and who were afflicted with medical conditions such as hypertension, monoclonal gammopathy, bladder cancer, parkinsonism, or hypothyroidism can receive retroactive benefits from one year ago if they apply by August 9th.
