The Guthrie County Iowa State University Extension and Outreach is hosting an important meeting in the coming week.

Starting at 6pm on August 3rd, there will be a Farmland Leasing and Management Workshop led by ISU Farm Management Specialist Alexis Stevens. The workshop will go over the different things that both landowners and renters need to know about when signing a lease agreement. Stevens tells Raccoon Valley Radio about material that landowners and renters will receive.

“Everyone who comes to our workshop will get a 100 page farmland leasing arrangement book. So that has just tons and tons of information in there that you can go back and reference later working on your leases or other farming questions that you might have.”

There is a $20 registration fee for participants, which can either be paid when they walk in the door, or ahead of time. Stevens mentions that according to recent surveys, over half of Iowa’s farmland is owned by someone who doesn’t farm, but leases the ground to someone who does.
