There is a break in Iowa high school sports during “Family Week,” which gives Raccoon Valley Radio a chance to remember the Dallas Center-Grimes’ girls basketball state championship in 2023.

The Mustangs girls basketball team finished the season on a 12 game winning streak defeating teams like Glenwood, Ballard and North Polk in the state tournament in Des Moines to win the 2023. Their final record was (23-3) and won the Little Hawkeye Conference with a perfect (18-0) record. They were led by their senior Emma Miner who scored 15 points per game while adding six rebounds and three assist. Miner’s clutch performance came in the state championship game against North Polk where she had a double-double scoring 23 points and collecting 12 rebounds. Senior Finley Fitzgerald also had an excellent senior season averaging 11 points per game while grabbing three rounds per game. Fitzgerald’s top performance came in the quarterfinal round of the state tournament against Glenwood where she scored 17 points on 17 attempts.

Dallas Center-Grimes will be anxious to get the season started in  late November to follow up the story book like 2022-23 season.
