A Carroll man was recently sentenced to probation for a February incident.
According to court documents, 47-year-old Nathan Martin pled guilty to a Class D Felony for passing a winning wager to another person. He had a five year prison sentence suspended and was placed on probation for two years with the Iowa Department of Corrections.
The charge stemmed from an incident at Wild Rose Casino in Jefferson on February 7th. Martin won a jackpot on a slot machine and asked another person to sit in his seat and claim the winnings. The individual did and filled out an IRS W-9 form to certify the winnings.
The video surveillance was reviewed, it was determined that Martin won the jackpot and when his information was run through the Iowa Department of Administrative Services Offset Program, he owed the state $89,000. Martin was also ordered to pay over $700 in probation enrollment fees, court appointed attorney fees and court costs. Martin was charged in a similar incident a few days prior, but that case was dismissed in lieu of pleading guilty to this case.
