Two men from Des Moines are facing drug charges after a traffic stop by an Iowa State Trooper.

The Trooper was on patrol near mile marker 95 on Interstate 80 watching the eastbound lanes, when he observed a white car exceeding the speed limit, and enforced a traffic stop. After pulling the car over, the Trooper let the driver, 25-year old Nicolas Inrachavongsa, and the passenger, 26-year old Nathaniel Rogers know why they had been stopped. During the stop the Trooper became suspicious of criminal activity, and a K9 was requested for an exterior sniff of the vehicle.

According to court documents, after a positive indication by the K9, a search was performed, and a glass jar with what appeared to be marijuana was found in the center console, and a digital scale was found under Rogers’s seat, along with $100 beside the seat. During a search of Rogers’s person, about 12 grams of a white substance was found in his sock, along with a white rock wrapped in a dollar bill, with both believed to be cocaine. Rogers did not possess a drug tax stamp, and both he and Inrachavongsa were booked at the Adair County Jail.

Rogers faces charges of a controlled substance violation and a failure to affix drug stamp, Class C and D felonies respectively. Inrachavongsa was charged with 1st offense possession of a controlled substance – marijuana, which is a serious misdemeanor.
