The Iowa High School Athletic Association and the Girls Union require high schools to not allow any organized activities during family week that began yesterday and is running through Sunday.  The idea was started a couple of years ago to ensure student athletes and coaches have an opportunity to enjoy family time and vacation time. With the off week officially beginning this week for Perry Athletics, Perry Athletic Director Kaitlyn Whelchel described what she thinks about the off week and how it benefits Bluejay athletes, coaches, and their families. She said it is a huge deal for all athletes especially those who play multiple sports a season.

“So many of our kids are participating in activities the entirety of the year, whether they are in school or out of school. Just being able to guarentee them down time and a break is such a great thing because we all know how it is. We all need some time off and we need sometime to recharge and especially having this week off because we get going with them this next school year is great for them as well,” Whelchel said.

The break will last through Sunday.  Perry will begin organized workouts, including ETS weights and speed conditioning, next week.
