The Panora City Council met in regular session Monday night.
The Council approved a Class C liquor license for Los Altos Mexican Restaurant, before discussing a city code review proposal with Region XII Council of Governments. They then discussed the funding/tax levy for the Community Center and Veteran’s Auditorium, as in previous years it was considered an 810 levy (Iowa Code 384.12(2), memorial building), but moving forward it will not be.
The Council also approved resolutions for a patient care reporting and data submission policy, which was just to make the current policy formalized, and a mutual aid agreement with the Adiar and Guthrie County Emergency Management Agency for use of a Polaris Ranger, before a staff update on emergency medical services contracts. At the end of the meeting, Mayor Pat Parker formally announced his resignation, stating that his resignation would take effect at 5pm on July 31st. Councilmember Curtis Thornberry and City Administrator Lisa Grossman then presented Parker with a plaque as thanks for his service to the city.
After the regular meeting was adjourned, a special workshop started, in which the Council and members from the Guthrie County EMS Advisory Council discussed where planning was at with having EMS services provided, and where the City of Panora sees themselves going forward. There was much discussion on jurisdictions, consolidation vs non consolidation, and who things were going to work. At the end of the workshop, the Council stated that they do want to work together with the Advisory Council, but that they would continue to make the City their priority in whatever decisions they make down the road.
