New Opportunities of Guthrie County is looking for items for their back to school drive.

Outreach Coordinator Rhonda Huggins says that they get lists for each class from all the Guthrie County Schools, and work to make backpacks for those families that need help getting the supplies to send their children back to school in the fall. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio that some of the supplies that they need more of are washable markers, colored pencils, number two pencils, pocket folders of all colors and designs and headphones and ear buds.

Huggins adds that they need the headphones and earbuds because for some classes, children will need them to complete work that may be on a computer. She mentions that when a family comes to New Opportunities for school supplies, they try to get as many of those supplies as they can and fill a backpack with everything on the supply list for that child’s class and school. If there are things that they can’t get, they’ll note that on a paper they give the family when they pick up the bag, letting them know the things they still need.
