The City of Perry is working to make improvements to their municipal airport.
City Administrator Sven Peterson says they are starting to prep the sub base to get the soil ready to be able to put rock down and paving will begin later this summer. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio that this project will turn Perry’s Municipal Airport’s current aging 4,000 foot runway into a 5,500 foot runway.
“That gives the current airport users a little bit more safety in different weather conditions to be able to land their aircraft, but also affords the opportunity to be able to expand the size of aircraft that are able to come in and out of Perry Airport and really positions the community to be the West Metro Airport, as will be the same size as the Ankeny airport after the completion of this project.”
Peterson says they have been working on this project for the last 15 years. He notes that they are still working with the Dallas County Board of Supervisors to purchase and realign 150th Street to make a safe turn on the curve in the project.
