600 West Lincoln Way

The Jefferson City Council recently approved selling one property and purchasing another.

The Council approved selling the vacant lots at 205 and 207 East Perry Street to Tim Buenz for $500 at their most recent meeting earlier this month. City Administrator Scott Peterson says a public hearing was held prior to the Council approving the sale, as is required by law when a governmental entity is selling property.

“Tim will be using it for some additional storage area and is looking at some additional storage units and a little business to run out of there as far as storage is concerned.

The Council then voted 3-1 in favor of purchasing 600 West Lincoln Way for $10,000, along with forgiving $2,332 in delinquent property taxes and $947 in delinquent utilities. Peterson notes this property has been deemed a nuisance in the past. He talks about what they are looking to do with the property.

“Options then for use of the property, there is a home there now and the home may be a candidate for a rehab type of a project. We’ve done lots of work with Region XII Council of Governments and their housing projects. If that can occur that’s great and if not and it becomes a candidate for demolition we’d take care of that too.”

The one “no” vote came from Councilmember David Sloan, and Councilmember Darren Jackson was absent from the meeting. Peterson adds the funding to purchase the lot and possibly demolishing the home will come from the city’s Neighborhood Stabilization Program, with funding that is set aside in the budget as well as money that the City has received from selling other properties to individuals or companies.
